Title: 99 Seconds

System: Wii U (eShop)

Price: $2.49

Release date: 10/2/2014

The main game/story

One of the best hidden gems on DSiware, the 99 Series, has arrived on Wii U, with a port of 99 Seconds! In this game, it’s a survival to the end, as you avoid all sorts of dangerous traps, using your ability to stop time to make it out safely. Be careful, however, as once 99 seconds are gone, it’s a one hit KO!

Graphics

It has a simple 2D style to them, and overall it works very well, the colors being simple and not distracting to the eye.

Music and sound effects:

This soundtrack is pretty much all techno, and I really like it a lot! Lots of variety that will keep you on your toes to the action. Not much in the way of sound effects, though the sound effect for hitting an enemy during the time limit can be a bit too loud at times, nothing is really a problem here.

Gameplay

The game is an arcade styled experience, where you (And up to four extra players) can team up and avoid obstacles, making use of your time power. Gain extra seconds, points, all while not dying after the 99 second limit. It’s very simple, hence why this review is so short, but it’s a lot of fun! Especially with friends, as the main difficulty modes will offer a lot of fun and challenge for multiple people, and despite it being local only, there are online leaderboards, adding to the replay value.

And that’s pretty much it. It’s a game of survival, and it’s for high scores. As fun as it is, I can’t help but also feel that it’s a bit too short for the price, since the extra Survival mode isn’t that fun even with other players. But overall, I think it is the best version of the game.

Conclusion

The good news is that 99 Seconds still is a lot of fun, especially for the leaderboards alone. However, due to the lack of much content, as well as the very lackluster survival mode, it’s hard for me to say to go out and buy this now. However, if you like high score games a lot, I do recommend you pick this up. I give 99 Seconds a 7 out of 10

Thanks to Enjoy Up games for the review code.
