Title: Free Balling
System: Wii U (eShop)
Price: $9.99
Release date: 09/01/2016
Graphics
This is a drawing app where the main gimmick is that you can spawn a ball to roll around in your drawings, which would mean that the visuals would vary depending on your artistic skills, right? Well, not quite. With only two colors to choose from, (Blue and Red) your art will get this weird 3D bulge as you draw, making the selection rather limited in terms of coloring. At least there are different colored balls and pretty backgrounds to choose from!
Music and Sound
For some odd reason, there’s a never ending loop of a licensed track in the background, and it really only stops when you hit the CD button, which interrupts it with a loud noise. Nothing to note here.
Gameplay
Being a drawing app, the game mostly revolves around you drawing on the touch screen, spawning a ball from the hole in the center of the screen. As mentioned in the Graphics section, there’s very limited options, and I already explained the entire point of the game to you. Sure, there’s some mild satisfaction from spawning balls to roll about crazy contraptions that you make, but most of the time said balls get stuck or go in reverse due to bad physics, making it very tough to get them to go where you want. Worst of all, there’s no save feature whatsoever!
Conclusion
In conclusion, Free Balling is a poor excuse for a drawing app, with limited color variety and lackluster ball physics. While the idea of making a cool slope for the ball to travel is fun to mess around with, the lack of any save feature or physics that work properly make this hard to recommend. Worst of all, this game costs a whopping $9.99 for some reason when you can get better alternatives like SDK Paint for much less! I give Free Balling a 2 out of 10, and unless this game goes on sale for a low price, I honestly have no idea why anyone would want this game outside of messing with ball physics.
